CW: re: Fediverse meme
@ecliptik @w4v3 #UUCP is still included in Linux distributions, and you can still run email and Usenet over it. #FidoNet still survives as well, mainly on some modern BBS implementations like #SynchroNet. Neither are very popular these days though. I recommend #NNCP for new projects, but UUCP is also still fun to play with, and great if you have noisy serial links or radios to deal with! https://changelog.complete.org/archives/10042-long-range-radios-a-perfect-match-for-unix-protocols-from-the-70s /end

@ecliptik @w4v3 #UUCP was used primarily at universities and corporations; #FidoNet by #BBSs. Both #Usenet and #Email ran atop UUCP. You could also send commands to be run on a remote system, and you'd get an email with the result. #FidoNet also had its version of email and Usenet (discussion groups), called netmail and echomail. Technically, #UUCP was the protocol; the network of systems using it went by various names, such as UUCPnet or UUnet. 2/

@ecliptik @w4v3 So both #UUCP and #FidoNet are not much used anymore. Both were big in the #1980s. Both were ways of exhcanging information over phone lines, but now run mostly over #Internet. Both are #asynchronous, #StoreAndForward systems. The idea being, to send a message from point A to point D, system A might call up system B, B calls up C, and C calls up D. So a message may take hours or days to get across, in the old times. 1/

Axiom Verge 2 for Switch finished, final stats 13:28 time, 83% items, 97% map, 29 deaths.
Can't quite place it, but I liked Axiom Verge 2 better than the original. They're both amazing games, but 2 diverged from the heavy Metroid feel and the world felt much more distinct. While not a fan of the melee combat, the skill system and use of the drone with an alternate Breach was was fun. Reminded me of Zelda Link to the Past.

Almost finished with Axiom Verge 2, hunting around for secrets before going into final area. Was reading more about how The Compass works since there's not a great in-game explanation.
While doing that, stumbled upon "secret codes", which are used at some of the rocks I've come across. How are you suppose to know that or what they do without a guide? Apparently there are clues in the world, but I don't think I would have ever figured this out by myself. Still it's a lot of fun to play.

Axiom Verge for Switch finished - final stats 14hrs, items 74%, map 92%, deaths 44, normal.
Not great, but not horrible and had a blast playing it.

I have no idea what the plot of Axiom Verge is, but I really gotten a lot of fun weapons and enjoying back tracking as poweups unlock new areas.
Think I'm almost done with it, like 80% of the map explored.

The planets orbit the sun on a plane we call the #ecliptic, so they are always roughly in a line. It's just that some planets are usually in the evening sky, while others are in the morning sky, and still others might be too close to the sun to see. Plus, Uranus and Neptune require optical aid to spot. But in January, all the planets but Mercury will be in the evening sky soon after dark.

@DCBeer Still waiting on someone truly making a Barleywine taste tropical.
Years ago, #EclipticBrewing made one that was supposed to taste like a pineapple upside down cake. But, in the end it came close but no cigar.
