La Salle earned this championship. They fought all the way from the outer edge of the Final Four, and the very two players who many thought wouldn't play again this season due to injuries made the crucial free throws in the dying seconds of the game.

Looks like this is exactly what happened. UP unleashed QMB; he topped the stat sheet along with JD (and Francis). With the team complete, UPMBT won their fourth straight Finals Game 1 😅 Can they win their first Game 2 in the Final Four era? Abangan. 😬

UP has yet to overcome La Salle this season, but in both games they were missing a key player, and the others who did play had off games. So, with the momentum of their solid recent games, this non-analyst’s wishful thinking is that they’ll take Game 1 convincingly. After that, let’s pray they get the endurance to win it all this time. 🏆

I was in Araneta on Wednesday evening. The fans in maroon easily outnumbered those in green, in what turned out to be the biggest basketball crowd in the arena's 63-year history.
The Maroons losing the championship series after convincingly winning the first game was a movie we've seen before—a repeat of last year—but this time it was more heartbreaking, heart-buckling under the weight of taller expectations.
I take comfort in the thought that the Archers really deserved the win, for making that huge comeback in Game 2 after a thorough Game 1 beating. And this Game 3 was a close affair after all, with the ultimate winner decided only by who had the stronger will in the final minutes.
On to the next season. #UPFight!

The finish to yesterday's Adamson vs UE game was wild 😵💫
And look at all the UP fans in maroon celebrating like the Falcons were their team 😆 If the UAAP teams were a K-pop band, the Falcons would be what you'd call their bias wrecker haha.

There was some drama mid-season, but now, at the end of the elimination round, the results are just as expected: the Maroons and Archers at the top, and the Eagles struggling to even get into the Final Four.
Everything gets only more exciting from here on, and nothing is certain, except maybe for the fact that UP fans would love to see the Falcons win on Wednesday and end the Eagles' eight-year Final Four streak. 🥲

This Francis "Lebron" Lopez kid's swag made me miss Juan GDL's antics on the court. My favorite: asking for low-fives in between free throws from both imaginary teammates and real opponents 😆

The instrumental rock band tide/edit describes their work simply as “happy music,” but this track is one of the few in their discography that contradicts that, and the title points to why.

I'll take comfort in the super-sophisticated statistical insight that, in the previous two seasons, the school to lose the first Battle of Katipunan went on to become champions. 😉
3 close games, and losing one of those, sort of outweighs the fact that the 4 others were blowout wins. They'd been called dominant but this game proves the UPMBT isn't really the Ateneo of seasons past, i.e. the kind of team that leaves everyone else competing for mere second place.
More exciting games to come!

Excited for #UAAPSeason86 men's basketball.
It's never good to expect, and of course I'm biased, but I can't avoid feeling that this is another season that is the Maroons' to lose. They lost Tamayo and Lucero, sure, but they replaced them with super-promising recruits, and they still have the MVP Diouf, a returning Cansino, the ascendant Alarcon, the reliable Cagulangan, and many others.
Meanwhile, their modern-day rivals from Ateneo no longer have Kouame, weren't as impressive in the recruiting game, and didn't look particularly dominant in the preseason.

@jepoy given that a ticket at Trinoma costs PHP390 now, that works out to a ~7.2% annual price increase. #didthemath
That's much higher than the general inflation over the same period I think? 😥
