And listen I get it; it’s to prevent bots and bad actors from flooding the platform. Nobody certainly wants any of that—I know I don’t.
I’m just wondering if phone verification is necessarily the best way of achieving that. Maybe it’s a compromise worth taking regardless what we’ve seen before. Or maybe there are some alternatives.
Would love a further discussion on the manner.

I’m already seeing within their official docs how guilds (or servers) can set a Verification Level to control what users are allowed in, including the option to limit to only those who have a verifiable number. Exactly like how discord does it.

This is not necessarily a bad thing by itself, but in the context of trying not to repeat Discord’s mistakes, it can certainly introduce some issues we’ve seen before.

I think my only concern for #fluxer is the phone verification part of it
I’ve heard way too many horror stories of discord who’ve been locked out of their accounts because they either don’t have a phone or they only have VoIP/burner numbers, or their numbers just simply don’t work at all.
Or hell, maybe they simple just don’t want to give them on the basis of basic privacy (tho I’d trust fluxer more than discord)
Given the code I’ve seen on their repos im just a bit concerned

particularly I’ve been looking for more #solarpunk and writing communities, plus ones related to comic book creation
actually been trying to use it more recently. so far it’s been really stable!

yo is anyone else noticing the #krita #flatpak being EXTREMELY slow today?
anytime I open a file or a new one it takes like 15 seconds before you can even draw on the canvas, and if i want to use another tool it takes another 15 seconds before I can use it
last time I used it it was just fine— between then and now I didn’t even update krita itself.
and yes I did reset the app to its original config; no difference

but then again if you’re using a distro with a frequently up to date DE (especially #KDE ), you don’t need to worry about any of this because it’ll just work ootb.
this is just an issue with the official #huion driver (that still only supports ubuntu btw)

as much as I enjoyed doctrow’s #enshittification audiobook, it would’ve probably been better for me to read it through a physical book, and write notes to retain a better memory of the specific topics he mentions and link them to my own thoughts, plus my other notes.
yeah it’s tedious and might involve highlighting and writing notes in the page margins, but any book worth anything deserves a good, slow read imo.
