New plan: illness last weekend forced me to postpone my early season #backpacking trip to this weekend… and of course Colorado gets its biggest snow dump of the season! So, new plan: Looks like my planned area got the *least* snow of any local region. So I’m going to get out for just one night on a shorter loop with warmer gear. Should still be a good test of the new pack and recipes.

Seljalandsfoss (aka, 'that waterfall you can walk behind') is one of the most-visited waterfalls in south western #Iceland, but a lot fewer people hike the half kilometer north to visit Gljúfrafoss in its tight chasm. You squeeze your way through that narrow crack on the left side of the first photo and end up in the chamber below/within the falls.

#Boulder-area trail peeps: Boulder County is considering doing an alternating-use pilot study (limiting certain days to bike only or foot/horse only).
IMHO, this is a solution looking for a problem. Conflicts are rare and this is going to result in a massive decrease in number of OS visitors because no one can figure out if it’s a bike day or a foot travel day (like certain places in Jeffco).

Amongst all the cool things happening with #Artemis2, they have with them the moon #flag which was to have flown on the surface in 1973 during the canceled Apollo 18 flight. This same flag has also flown on STS1 and 135 (first and last #SpaceShuttle flights) as well as the first Crew Dragon flight. That flag has seen some things!

Looks like the summer season is starting early in #Colorado. On the one hand, it was nice to test some new gear so early in the season. On the other, it’s still March and this is less than one linear mile from a place I was skiing in steep, deep powder only three weeks ago.

I’m a backcountry skier, maybe even a #skimo guy, and I don’t understand the #Olympic format “Ski Mountaineering” debuting this week in Cortina at all. It’s an incredible bit of athleticism, for sure, but where’s the mountaineering part? Five minute laps up and down a short, groomed course (with stairs?) is a totally different thing than skinning switchbacks up a steep meadow, negotiating rock bands, and surfing knee-deep powder through a glade… i.e., all the good parts of ski mountaineering.
