#Orthopraxy is very much a focal point in most #Jewish communities, rather than #orthodoxy. (I realize that "Orthodox" is the name of one of the major Jewish movements in North America. This is confusing, but that sometimes happens as categorical terms emerge.)
As I see it, both orthopraxy and orthodoxy have potential pitfalls.

I identify as a #NonTheist in that I don't #Believe in #Deity in the sense of having #Faith.
Deity exists because people say so.
It's been several decades since I took a philosophy of religion course, though I remember that "belief" doesn't really define religion as much as practices do. Think of the spectrum of #Christianity - #Amish, #Orthodox. #Baptists, #JehovasWitnesses, and others.
They all believe in #Jesus -

I don't remember much about Buddha from college, though I do remember his distinction between #Pain and #Suffering and that pain happens to you and suffering is one way of interacting with pain and that you control it.
I'm not #Wise, merely #Experienced. Physical pain is a sign that something's wrong. The first response should not be to end it, rather to #Listen to it and try to #Understand what is happening. Like Coach used to say "walk it off" which is an #Acknowledgement

Thank you so much for the mention! Being a part of this Hellenic nonprofit organization has been a lot more fulfilling than I expected. I've learned a lot, especially after taking up a Social Media Coordinator position. Anything short of awakened appreciation of living experience entails "unsatisfactoriness" (#dukkha), so, yes, I feel it can be important to underscore the matter-of-factly psychological effects of those "poisons." Even pleasure, when we experience it from within a less than really awakened state is "unsatisfactory."

And I think the anonymous 14th c. #contemplative author of *The Cloud of Unknowing* understood our mind's conscious attention works that way. Attention is a kind of "mental light" that extends towards a thought or phenomenal object and illuminates it and touches it and grasps it.
And he recommended that we sometimes practice "letting go" of our grasped thoughts and mental objects.
That is what #unknowing is.

I offered in a #Zen discussion today — on the topic of Zen's "irreverence" or iconoclasm, on one hand, and Zen's calls for respect and care for the teachings and for one another, on the other — how #Socrates was seen in his day as both a "gadfly" for provoking uncertainty and #unknowing in others, and as a "midwife" for the way he nurtured and tested the life that's born out of the place of not knowing.
