After reading the linked article here, I’ve purchased the book “Mini-Forest Revolution “ which supposedly provides a primer on how to actually grow a forest following these principles. I’m aware of research casting doubt on some of the claims, but my main interest is plant density for sound insulation and privacy and this approach seems to accomplish that. We’ll see. https://kottke.org/26/05/0048869-pocket-forests #miyawakiforests

I’m the de facto #data manager of a local #foodbank and I’m thinking about how we could publish data about the demand we’re seeing to try to offset the loss of this centralized data source.
If other folks have regular sources of directly gathered data on #hunger, #foodinsecurity, or similar, I’d love to talk about how we could combine and #crowdsource something.

I spent part of Saturday writing a simulator of the #MontyHallProblem to prove to myself that switching doors increases odds of winning to 2/3. That's the assertion I've seen made and the simulator proves it. For the life of me though I don't get _why_.
In the second round, you're effectively choosing out of two potential winners, so why are the odds not 1/2?

Why is there not more news coverage of the bill to add a #ConstitutionalAmendment to give the fascist in chief a third term??
Someone joked about Obama having a #3rdTerm and the right freaked the hell out but people are trying to make this real for the orange one and it’s like crickets.

I'm putting together a lunch-and-learn presentation to introduce #python type hinting to a group of data analysts. So far, I'm planning to cover:
- the basics of hinting,
- type aliases and the Any type,
- setting up VSCode for type checking,
- mypy checking,
- use of collections.abc in hintingAre there other related topics #pythonistas would think are important to cover in this introduction?

#DJT is now worth less per share than *Roblox*.
I love seeing the #OrangeOne lose money.

Companies pay more in facility costs and salaries for #inpersonwork than #RemoteWork but there is still a growth in demand for people to be on-site. The #productivity research I’ve seen doesn’t support the value of inperson vs remote.
How do we, as employees help companies get over this remote aversion?

TFW you realize the dataset you’re pulling from for your analysis project drops data after 5 years AND THEY DON’T BOTHER TO SAY THAT IN THE DOCUMENTATION. 🤬

"[#DataAnalysts]..should know how the data was born, with all details of measurement... Few things have more devastating consequences ... than someone in the audience pointing out...measurement issues the analyst didn't consider." Békés and Kézdi, 2021: Data Analysis for Business, Economics, and Policy
If you're having trouble helping your org understand the value of #datalineage and #metadata, share this with them and ask if they know how all the data they're using was gathered and measured.

I find #scopecreep to be a real problem with #selfGuidedLearning, particularly online. Do others find the same and, if so, how do you deal with it?
As an example, I sat down to dig into #ApacheSuperset but that led to #ApacheAirflow, which lead to the Astronomer.io service, which led to #ApacheFlink. By the end of the day I’d had a great overview of some really neat stuff but was not better positioned to be productive in Superset than I was at the start of the day.

#remotework promises two main benefits for companies (outside the team morale benefits):
1 - ability to reduce overhead by giving up expensive office space
2 - ability to recruit team members from anywhere
But the second benefit only really comes when the company also embraces #asynchronouscollaboration. Without that, the team can really only come from areas with significant timezone overlap with those in which the rest of the team resides.

Tools like #tableau and #powerBI have some great training for onboarding new non-developers to use the tool. I’m not finding equivalent trainings for #ApacheSuperset though. Are there Superset trainings/tutorials y’all can recommend?
