@arildsen @CiaraNi
For our #TatrasTrainTrip this September (which was pretty much trouble free) we flew out to Vienna which made me feel really guilty, but it was the only option given our time constraints for the rail journey back home from Bratislava to central England. -
Found out today that Nushell is using #Polars and that plugins can be written in :python: https://fosstodon.org/@tsvenson/115406094496385448

As an instance admin, I have to think about it and discuss possible limitation/defederation of #Fosstodon with the other members of Pan.
Personally, I believe this specific issue is just one of the many symptoms of a much deeper, global, and troubling problem: the de-politicization of technology.

If I were running a blog on applying #randomforest models to various problems, I would call it The Statistical Lumberjack 🤔

I am familiar with classical process control but not very experienced or up-to-date on the state of the art. I imagine a situation where you have a controller and a plant: What is it called when you cannot be sure that the control signals are executed by the plant?
They may not be executed at all, or they may only be partially executed. After a possible time delay, the controller knows whether / to which extent the signal was executed.

I speculate whether this can be done as a #spline smoothing problem with constraints to enforce the average? 🤔

Why does convexity/concavity in mathematics seem to contradict the dictionary definition?
In the usual mathematical definition of convexity, a function is #convex when it forms a “trough”, i.e. it curves downward, seen from above. I have always pictured it like that - seen from above, so it curves “inward”.
However, the dictionary definition says it means: “curved outwards, like the surface of an eye” [Cambridge Dictionary]. This also seems to be the interpretation for optical lenses.

I just came across Framework laptops: https://frame.work
Now, I don’t need a new #laptop any time soon, but when I do I will definitely consider these.
Finally a company who designs their devices for #repairability and #upgradablity. I am so tired of the tendency of especially Apple of gluing devices together and whatnot which makes it very difficult to repair or upgrade anything.
Framework goes against the race to obsolescence and their designs are open source. -

I just got this little beauty back from service. It has been repaired and serviced by a very helpful watch repairman.
It’s a King Seiko 5246-6020 from January 1972. The case is in nice used condition. The dial is in perfect condition and the crystal is a NOS one sourced from Japan. It also came with the original bracelet which is also in really good condition 🤩 -
Beautiful sunny autumn day here in northern Denmark ☀️
I finally got the correct watch hands on this gem recently. I really have soft spot for those #vintage DS-2. -
This old Certina DS-2 is a fairly new addition to my collection. After testing it a bit on a black leather strap, which I don't really think worked so well, it looks much better with a brown strap.
I feel pretty lucky to have found this quite uncommon dial variant. -
Big surprise! I must have made a rookie mistake 😅
So, I cultivated the pepper plants from sweet red peppers like these which are not spicy at all. It turns out the green, unripe peppers from the plant are really spicy - like #jalapeños! Is this how jalapeños eventually turn out? -
A bit of amateur #watchrestoration. I polished the glass and cleaned up the case of this wonderful Certina DS-2 and put a new strap on it yesterday. It has a very uncommon dial colour, sort of petroleum blue.

The #chantarelle season is in full bloom here in Denmark 😃

How do you pronounce "k9s" as in, the Kubernetes management UI?
I call it [kuber-nineties], because its wonderfully old-school text UI reminds me of nineties DOS ☺️ That, and [kubernetes] is typically abbreviated k8s.
But, I don't know what for example the k9s developers call it. -
