  1. Favourite white flower due to its lovely shape but also because the Solomon's seal. This is a perennial with slightly arching stems to 1.2m, bearing ovate leaves and small axillary clusters of nodding, tubular creamy-white flowers tipped with green, appearing in late spring, and followed by black berries.
But it is my favourite white flower garden plant because it supports the Solomon's seal sawfly with it's caterpillars that consume the leaves after flowering has been completed.

  2. Lily-of-the-valley (Convallaria majalis) is second on my favourite white flowers list. They are so delicate but also very fragrant. But beware as it is toxic

  3. I have one of the best Foxgloves (Digitalis purpurea) I have even grown in a totally random place in my polytunnel. It's an escaped seed as behind my raised beds as always nature does best. None of my foxgloves outside in the borders are close to flowering

  4. An Oystercatcher (Haematopus ostralegus) ran/bounced up my driveway and then decided to jump on top of the giant tree stump that is waiting to be chainsawed and call out for over 10 minutes straight then flew back to the field next door where it is nesting. Photo taken through glass window.
If you would like to hear the call the RSPB have a recording on their site rspb.org.uk/birds-and-wildlife

  5. So update on the Kidney Vetch seedlings, they have been growing well

  6. The downlooker snipefly (Rhagio scolopaceus) was a visitor to the polytunnel today.
See alt text for more info.

  7. Juvenile Chaffinch resting up after they shocked themselves by flying into the patio window.

  9. Today, my load from the house wasn't high, most of the day (under 1kWh). But the inverter transfer from the wind seemed to be stuck on draining down the power in the lead acid batteries. Couldn't seem to reset the inverter, so thought let's load the house up to make the SigenStor discharge and that seems to have done the trick. So now the lead acid batteries are recharging off the wind and no transfer occuring. Happy days.

  10. I had a massive panic over the last 24 hours. My power setup is a main SigenStor 45kWh that has a large solar array, but also a filter feed from a wind turbine and lead acid battery setup with separate inverter.
Yesterday was windy and sunny. I charged my car from 55 to 94% however after this and after my two immersion diverts had heated the water store the lead acid batteries smelt and sounded like were boiling. Anyway wind dropped things seemed alright as levels all okay, but then today ...

  11. Really disappointed by this result, really would love to lower dependence on US stuff.
