I worked out a way to take picks through a DOB so that I could stack them. For some reason I never followed through on the DOB. But I did use the procedure on a 60mm long focus refractor that was on a non-tracking mount.I knew the images would drift through the fov due to earth rate. So I wrote a Yorick program that when given the first and last images of a digital CAM movie, could anticipate the drift then co-align images. Here's a #Tycho image taken through a 60mm refractor processed with that procedure.

I made altazimuth setting circles for my DOB, azimuth on the base and an elevation circular segment on the elevation axis. When I set up my DOB I scoot the base until Polaris in the center of the finder reads 0 deg azimuth. I level the base, not a real critical factor.
Then I use the following url app to let me see the az and el of the #Messier, #Herschel500, or #Caldwell objects. Then I just look up an object in the app and move the telescope to the indicated coordinates. it usually is close enough to get the object in my finder.

Thanks to a heads-up post from @appagalcrochet, I hauled out my telescope this morning to check out newly-formed sunspot region 4366 — an area ten times wider than the Earth! It’s been emitting powerful X-class solar flares, which reportedly triggered radio blackouts across the South Pacific. The fact that life is able to exist at all on our tiny orb amid such unimaginably powerful cosmic forces continues to amaze me.

Luna Rising (Part III)
A closer view (video).
Not as crisp and clear as the views from @appagalcrochet’s Matilda but I thought I’d give it a shot!

Some views of the supermoon two nights ago at 98 percent illumination, just a few hours before full. It was my first time using a 2x Barlow lens to boost the magnification and I like the results so far! (Check out @appagalcrochet’s moon photos for even greater clarity and detailed maps of lunar sites.)
