  1. @aoristdual I'd probably look for something that doesn't need another toolchain (i.e. compilation) to keep things as simple as possible. Using #preact as a native es module together with #htm to write #jsx-style template tags for example.

  3. #Codeberg is great, but it can't replace #GitHub by itself. We need SDLC tools that are forge-agnostic. We engineers need to practice what we preach and build composable, well-layered, distributed and federated SCM, CI/CD, package management, and friends.

  8. The setup process (using #Tuwunel) really isn't bad, but it's very much not designed for declarative setup. There's a lot of back-and-forth between the terminal and the client copying YAMLs - yuck.

    Resource consumption is very acceptable for my use case.

  18. Burned through #TheShatteringPeace by #JohnScalzi in a couple of days. Classic Scalzi space-opera-and-snark romp, with lots of my beloved Obin. (I read them in Alan Tudyk's voice). Ready for the next book now.

  19. I left this stapelia outside under the Denver sun all summer. I thought it’d died. Brought it in for winter and it rewarded me with a bloom I’ve never seen before.

  20. I finished #Katabasis by R. F. Kuang. Really fun (and dark) as a satire on academia, but tonally and thematically quite uneven and drags after the first third. (Is this a romance? Is it Voyage of the Dawn Treader in Hell? Is it a Zelazny-esque mashup of world mythologies? What it is is a mess).

    There's an abrupt shift in the main character I just couldn't buy about 2/3rds in. And a lengthy section on sexual assault and feminism in academia whose intent I could not puzzle out.

  22. Going deep into #beancount; I can't get `bean-price` to work, but `pricehist` and some bash is magic:

    ```
    uv run bean-query --no-errors --format csv books.bean 'SELECT DISTINCT currency' | tail -n +2 | tr -d '\r' | xargs -I {} uv run pricehist fetch -s 2025-10-01 -e 2025-10-24 -o beancount --quantize 2 --type close yahoo {} 2> /dev/null || true
    ```

    ... and I have price history for all my securities.
