Had a really good day today 🌤️ Been leaning into low-device / no-device 📵 weekends lately to help with burnout and honestly enjoying it more than I expected.
Love the neighborhood feeling on my side of the city when the weather warms up: photographers out everywhere 📷, cyclists rolling in groups 🚴, sketch meetups ✏️, people gathering in the parks.
Nice reminder to slow down and actually notice things again!

Moved from the Gulf Coast 🌊 to Chicago 🌇 to get away from hurricanes 🌀 and somehow ended up speedrunning seemingly every weather record they’ve got in 1 year's time 📆 :
First dust storm since the dust bowl (?!), hottest summer in forever, coldest/snowiest winter in forever, and now the rainiest spring! 🌷
Typing this during a flood/tornado 🌪️ warning while another line of storms rolls in.
Beginning to suspect I brought this with me. 🤔 😆

At the Garfield Park Conservatory in Chicago.
Walked into a full on tropical climate at the conservatory 🌿☀️ Warm, humid air, sunlight through that massive glass ceiling, and hanging plant baskets overhead.

Thought I'd do a mid week #threegoodthingstoday. 📆 amidst the build out of our compute cluster 💻. Without further ado:
1. Did some community organizing related to CTA 🚆 🚂 funding and immigration rights 📄 with #DSA #CDSA despite having no ⌚ time these last few weeks. It wasn't much but I feel like showing up, even in small ways, is still important.
2. I just love 💕 my train 🚂 time. Every morning 🌄 and afternoon ☀️ I get a great walk in 👟 and a space of time to nap, read and take in a great view 🏙️ with a variety of people in the city.
3. The compute cluster 💻 build is moving forward. I'm hesitant to say anything but I think I can see the next phase in sight 🤞🏼 🤞🏼 🤞🏼

There is currently NO funding set aside in the '26 #illinois budget to address the crisis facing #Chicgoans who rely on #CTA #metra and #BNSF for work or ridership or both.
If you rely on these services or just like #walkablecities, #DSA #CDSA has prepared a short letter that you can submit to Gov. #pritzker in just a few clicks ! 🖱️

I like to post a few #reasonstobecheerful to spread a bit of positivity - maybe give someone a smile or remind them of a good thing in their week 😜. Without further ado...
1. June 1 ☀️ came and went (official start of the Atlantic basin hurricane 🌀 season) and for the first time in my life aside from a few years in university 🏫, I'm not living on the Gulf of Mexico. After evacuating 🧳for Hurricane Helene last year, I sat in a hotel room in Pittsburgh, watching the storm tear up the coast ⛱️ and I made myself a promise: I was going to move and never experience this again. Within 4 months I had an out of state job offer. I did it. I left. I'm still very proud 🦚 of that.
2. My morning 🌅 train ride 🚆 was something out of a painting 🎨🖌️. The sun 🌞 was beaming and the city was awash in soft light. It was the kind of view that made me stop scrolling 📲 and just look out the window.
3. Went to a meeting 🤝 in support of HB3853 - The Protective Medical Equipment Freedom Act 😷. This bill 🧾will enshrine the right to wear medical masks and other protective medical equipment for Illinoisans. #Illinois #illinoispolitics #chicagoland

1. Zohran Mamdani won the Democratic primary in NYC 🏙️ by actual speaking 🗣️ to peoples material needs (go figure!). I'm very much enjoying this W! ✨
2. I am re learning 📝 Spanish. I still want to do a grad degree and/or PhD abroad ✈️ and I'm really interested in Mexico and Uruguay at the moment !
3. Our SLURM cloud ☁️ computing cluster is operational! I was able to submit my first batch job and an interactive R job. Now soon enough I will need to replicate this work on prem 👩🏼💻

1. I was introduced as a subject matter expert in the realm of HPC/SLURM in a meeting. I never thought I'd be an expert on...anything, ever
2. I took my first real (non touristy) trip on the L and other city transit today to get a new monitor 🚆 and take an adventure capturing street art
3. Got in touch with my DSA chapter and a local food pantry
