Late #VGMWednesday post!
Always had a soft spot for the classic Doom E1M1 music, At Doom's Gate. Sure, it's a blatant riff on Metallica's Master of Puppets, but it's a great tune in its own right.
In 2016, Andrew Hulshult—the guy behind the soundtracks for Dusk, Amid Evil, Prodeus, and even the Iron Lung film—released IDKFA, where he rearranged and recorded the entire soundtrack with real instruments. Pretty great stuff—enough so that it ships with modern builds of Doom and Doom 2!

Hey! I didn't even check the Fediverse for awhile, but occassionally I'm still active with new music, mostly original solo works for quick 1-2h compos.
And one of these works got a surprisingly good reception all of a sudden in Newgrounds, a site I'm usually not very active at all either. It was a MIDI metal tune inspired by old shooter games like Doom or Duke Nukem.

A little something I'm still strangely proud of - the funky comping I did on Oceanic Entanglement from ECHO's OST. I forget if it's quantized live playing or manually sequenced - probably a combination.

Just because it is Christmas Eve, doesn't mean I am not going to fulfil my contractual obligation to post something for #VGMWednesday
We're getting close to the end of the year, I gave myself a theme of games I have been playing recently. Jeez, I might need to compile a list of all the tracks I put together as my 2025 playlist.
ANYWAY, as some may know, I have been playing Final Fantasy X recently, mostly so I could clear it from my unbeaten games list. Being a Final Fantasy game it comes as no surprise that it has a solid soundtrack.
Perhaps a little cliché, but I have chosen the 『Battle Theme』for this game, and on reflection I would say this ranks up as one of my favourite battle themes for Final Fantasy of all time. It may not be the OG, or Man with the Machine Gun, but it provides a fantastic backdrop to pretty much every non-boss encounter.
It is hard to listen to without thinking about the sounds of casting and explosions...

As we move into May, we leave the Sonic vocal tracks behind. A part of me is a little sad, but I am sure Sonic will return to an Ishambard #VGMWednesday in due time.
Today's game is one I have vague memories of, mostly of seeing it at a friend's. He had a chipped PS1, and had a bunch of pretty obscure PS1 games. Ones that stuck in my mind were Legend of Legaia and Soul Blade.
Soul Blade being the first game in the Soul Calibur series. Called Soul Edge in Japan but Soul Blade internationally due to avoid on-going shenanigans relating EDGE games and their attempts to trademark anything with edge in the name. At least, that is my understanding...
What i wasn't aware of though, was that Soul Edge had a vocal opening theme 『The Edge of Soul』

So, I had this in mind a few weeks back and knew if and when I got talking about Sonic music for #VGMWednesday I was going to have to put this one in there.
I don't actually have much history with Sonic CD.
I played it about 10 years ago on my Amazon Fire Tablet that my Girlfriend at the time bought for me.
There was a bunch of games I could download and play for free, like, proper games, including KOTOR and Sonic CD.So, my experience with Sonic CD was pretty awful. Playing using a digital controller is never fun.
But one thing I did take away from the experience was the stellar soundtrack. But, as I think I have alluded to in all my previous Sonic music toots, good music is a staple of the franchise.
So what's the song today?

For this week's piece, it's obviously a tribute to the work of Stéphane Picq, and of course it's a track from Cryo's Dune soundtrack, which was one of the biggest video-game slams of my childhood.
I had the CD-ROM version, and I still remember the big box with its incredible design, with its full-size manual that could be read horizontally, and this game with its crazy visuals and music, one of the first I played with 3D CGI animations.

For #VGMwednesday I just have to pick a track from the genre which I've been playing non-stop for the past 2 weeks now.
The classic #STGOne track which always brightens my day is OLGA BREEZE 太陽シーン (Taiyou shiin / Sun scene) from Darius 2, by the always amazing Zuntata.
The intro when she goes "i always wanted a thing called tuna sashimi" gives me goosebumps, each and every time.

NEOTOKYO° is a video game I will likely never play. It's a multiplayer Half-Life 2 total conversion mod with a cyberpunk aesthetic that borrows liberally from Ghost in the Shell. Honestly, it looks pretty neat.
But that's not important. What's important is that the soundtrack is an absolutely fantastic blend of electronica and orchestral bits, and you should definitely listen to it. So, for #VGMWednesday, I put forth "Scrap I/O" from Neotokyo GSDF.
