  1. An #introduction

Hello world, I'm Totorose, your neighbor and forest sprite.

I grew up with chickens and mossy sheds in #Chicago, back of the yards.

    I love #science and #biology. I'm an alumna of #IllinoisTech #IIT

I enjoy #walking the Illinois Prairie Path and nearby #forest preserves seeking curiosities, friendly mulberry trees & #moss.

I like #thrifting in #resale shops, wandering museums, #baking #cookies, enjoying #kpop videos and obsessing over my #heatpump data.

    Hi! (waves paw!)

  2. It's lamb cake season in Chicagoland.

My sister found a cast aluminum lamb cake pan while thrifting in Louisville. I was unable to identify the pan but the shape looks exactly like the cast iron lamb mold.

I've been experimenting with the pan and managed to turn out one vanilla cake with a broken ear and one perfect chocolate cake. I think I'm ready to try a pound cake recipe. 😉

I'm using the Griswold technique of flipping the pan while baking.

  4. I went through the Starved Rock Lock this past weekend.

The weather was gorgeous, the Illinois River was calm and I did not get seasick.

The trees haven't gotten their cue so the leaves are still green in the canopy.

I didn't see any of the invasive carp that star in those viral videos of people getting hit by fish leaping out of the water.

Going through the lock was pretty cool, ngl. 😺

  6. LOL I enjoy hearing Nick Lutsko's Spirit Halloween songs when I'm at Spirit Halloween. 😆

If you enjoy silliness, he has 3 songs:
    1. Spirit Halloween Theme Song
    2. Unleash Your Spirit
    3. Spirit Halloween Planet

I keep a private YouTube Halloween playlist with Nick Lutsko, Bobby Duke Arts (his pumpkin series) and the classic SNL sketch of David S. Pumpkins. Always fun to watch during October.

  7. As I was born and raised in Chicago, I am obligated to try the Twinkies flavored popcorn. 😋

It didn't taste like Twinkies but a sweeter version of kettle corn.

I grew up with a corner store that got fresh Twinkies, some with "smiles."

Sadly, the Twinkies have not smiled in decades and they never will again.

  8. @DazeEnd

O'Neil's is worth the detour to Wanchese, loved walking in and seeing folks trimming fresh catch in the back. It's picnic tables and informal. I had the catch of the day ( #sheepshead ! ) with fries & coleslaw. Their menu is small because they're primarily a seafood market.

Stayed in Avon this trip but saw the Yelp reviews for O'Neil's and couldn't resist. 😋

  9. Discovered 2 great places for #seafood on the outer banks of North Carolina:

    1. O'Neil's in #Wanchese

The catch of the day was sheepshead, a strange looking fish with teeth!

    2. Po House, in #Avon

This is fine dining, compliments to their chef! The pan roasted catch of the day was #rockfish served with roasted potatoes, green beans and
    chimichurri sauce. Awesome!

  10. I saw the last night AtTheMac.org and every dancer was amazing to watch.

I love watching . I cannot, so I appreciate those with this talent.

It was an evening of hip hop, classic ballet, modern dance and a little bit of tap all in one performance, with only a cast of 9! Oh, the energy!

I've never seen tap or hip hop dance live before so quite the treat for me!

Catch them if you love dance!

  11. @lowqualityfacts I'm sure it's moosi

That's what I was taught at Illinois Tech! The student newspaper was called Technology News except for April's edition of Technology Moose. Cartoon moose appeared in many articles and were referred to as "moosi"

Wish I'd saved some of those!

  12. This year I decided to re-use plastic containers as planters instead of buying new ones.
    Meet my neighbor Totoros :artpeek:
I used acrylic colours for this (multiple coats). And added a thin layer of varnish for durability.

  14. About halfway through putting together my photo collection for last year, and I am definitely not allowing myself to get distracted by twisting and turning images from the 360 camera into portals to another world. Definitely not. Nope.
