  1. “The Regulator” by Clutch is a flippin’ incredible song. That is all.

  2. Our college has a hospitality department. Students operate a restaurant 2-3 days a week. Menus are themed from week to week, and the food they put out is outrageously good. This week’s theme is Scandinavian. I had venison tartare to start (how is this even on the menu?!), roast cod with shrimp, then a buttermilk panna cotta. This is 17-18 yr olds putting out food at a quality that would shame many of the places I’ve eaten at. Is this normal for FE colleges in the UK?! #FurtherEducation #Food

  3. GrumblePost Warning: Every time I touch Hashicorp's Packer tool, I lose DAYS of my life to any number of issues. On the surface it sounds like a great thing to use (immutable OS images are A Good Thing). And it is. But it touches so many complex moving parts (infra platforms (permissions, storage options, networking, resource isolation..), OS (cloud init, networking, disks, systemd config), config management tools) that it will eat your time like it's nothing.. #Packer #HashiCorp #OSImages

  7. It's my 1 year anniversary at work. I have survived my first year as an educator! Everyone who told me the first year would be tough wasn't wrong! In fact, they downplayed just how tough it is. But I'm still here, and still enjoying it when it's not immensely stressful. #Teaching #FurtherEducation #Apprenticeships #Apprentices

  17. I am not comfortable with this, but I can't get past the idea of using a Useless Use of Cat as a good introduction to Linux pipes for newbies! If I do use it as an example, I'm going to feel dirty, and will be compelled to pile more stuff on to the students as I explain both what is happening, and why they shouldn't do it. Need to find a command (on WSL) that's not `cat` but still dumps some relatable information.. #UUoC #Linux #Education #Teaching

  21. Look at my dinner! I bloody LOVE Thai food. We have a pot of shrimp paste in the fridge, which I thought I’d try to use up. Found recipes for Kao Kluk Gapi (shrimp paste fried rice). It’s delicious, punchy, spicy, sweet, sour, crunchy. The kitchen smells amazing! #ThaiFood #FoodPicWanker #Food #HomeCooking

  22. So, I'm finding that teaching sometimes feels like a long uphill trek, with little to no pay-off along the way. Might just be me, might just be what I'm teaching. But I'm someone that *needs* some payoff. Safe to say this is one of my least favourite bits of this job. However, I visited some of my apprentices at work last week, and they've only gone and implemented a concept I taught them about, and it's working and they're happy with it, and their manager is happy with it. Win! #DopaminePlease #Teaching #Apprentices #FurtherEducation
