  1. I just uploaded a new episode of #SeldonCrisis featuring an interview with the voice actor behind the character Bayta Darell and several others on the podcast. Amanda provides a lot of great insight into voice acting and some of the challenges it presents.

It's also a nice retrospective on a particularly exciting section of the #Foundation story by Isaac #Asimov, wherein Bayta bravely faces off with the Mule, bent on conquering the entire galaxy.

  2. I'm a big believer in podcast accessibility and that every podcast should provide free, high quality transcripts for those who need them or just prefer to read. I've finally achieved 100% coverage for #SeldonCrisis, my podcast exploring Isaac #Asimov's #Foundation series.

I've just added a Transcripts page to my website with links to to an Active Transcript web page to read and/or listen, or download a PDF or MS Word version for each episode.

  3. @stephenwebb Hi Stephen - I just finally got around to transcribing our chat on #SeldonCrisis and forgot how much I enjoyed it. Hope you are well and I'm curious if you've started on that 1956 project?

  4. New episode of #SeldonCrisis asks the question, Who is Hari Seldon? A brief essay on the characterizations of Isaac Asimov's central figure in the source material of Foundation as well as the TV dramatization. #accessibility #transcripts withfanfare.com/p/seldon-crisi

  5. @Blanco The first season aired in Sep 2021 and the first episode of season 2 just came out yesterday. Be forewarned - there is a lot of divergence from Asimov's books and it's been pretty controversial. Best to see it as something entirely new and not get hung up too much on the gender swaps and recharacterizations.

If you want a recap, I did a pretty thorough episode by episode recap of the first season on my podcast a while back. #SeldonCrisis #Foundation #SciFi

  6. @trekfan4747 BTW - if you're interested in a dramatic retelling of the Odyssey in podcast form I recommend Jeff Wright's Odyssey - the Podcast. It's a sequel to one he did on the Illiad, also excellent. They're not straight readings, but humorous retellings with commentary and analysis.

It's one of the primary inspirations for my own retelling of #Asimov's #Foundation in #SeldonCrisis odysseythepodcast.com/

  7. Wow! No idea what's going on here. I got a typical spike of downloads from the latest #SeldonCrisis (a pretty decent one relatively speaking). Then the usual quick drop-off over subsequent days to single figures per day. Then, for no obvious reason, a massive spike in the last four days - much bigger than the one right after release.

  8. #SeldonCrisis has been using these for a while now. The use of images and wikipedia links in the flow of the text is showcased in the interview with Kevin Jardine, @galaxy_map. #ESA #GAIA

  12. @dd9000 I just recorded a new episode of #SeldonCrisis in which I read one of Asimov's short stories that is quite relevant to the recent #AI debate about the dangers of it becoming conscious and getting rid of humans. It's called Reason, and is presented as humor, but has some heavy ideas. Written 82 years ago! Episode should be out tomorrow.

  13. Episode 40 of #SeldonCrisis features a conversation with GPT-4 on a fairly complex topic, the irreplaceability of human beings. This clip sets the stage, and a couple of others give a little more taste for the conversation itself. #AI #GPT4 #LLM

  14. I had the great honor and privilege of hosting a conversation with Kim Stanley Robinson, who I believe to be our greatest living #scifi writer, on #SeldonCrisis. We talked about a wide range of topics; #climate, #space, #Mars, several of his novels, in particular #Aurora, #MinistryForTheFuture #music, and #UltralightBackpacking #ScienceFiction #ClimateChange #ClimateFiction

    Enjoy!

  15. Pre-release for #SeldonCrisis patrons of my conversation with legendary sci-fi writer #kimstanleyrobinson.

We talked about #AI, #ClimateChange, #InterstellarTravel, new forms of #Governance and #Finance needed to avert catastrophe, characters and plot lines in his novels, the debate between settling #Mars now vs fixing #Earth first, #Utopia vs #Dystopia, and his love of #UltralightBackpacking.

  16. On #SeldonCrisis, I asked #KimStanleyRobinson to respond to a comment made by #MarsSociety president #RobertZubrin about "limits to growth" and his answer was substantive and clear. He's not an advocate of degrowth, but of smart, green, clean growth, and that can lead us to a beautiful future.

  17. @seldoncrisis Sounds interesting... have you read any of 's work?

  18. Latest #SeldonCrisis focuses on #KimStanleyRobinson's novel Aurora, including reading an excerpt from my favorite part of the book.

There's also a rumination on #utopia vs #dystopia and what it really means to hope. Several notable #utopian thinkers are called out including #DavidGrinspoon, #RebeccaSolnit and #JohannaHoffman.

  19. I love my listeners. Shared a little GPT-4 experiment today - which is a bit off topic for the theme of the show - but I got a ton of downloads anyway. #SeldonCrisis #GPT-4 #AI #Humanity

  20. Looking for feedback on this #ActiveTranscript concept I've been exploring for #SeldonCrisis. This is a fairly short and largely standalone episode about the novel #Aurora by #KimStanleyRobinson and a few thoughts on the importance of #hope vs unconditional #optimsm. Would love to know if this works for people out there as a way to take in this kind of information in a multi-modal format.

  21. The second clip is later in the excerpt, and it is from a soliloquy (or chorus) of the ship's collective #AI systems explaining its understanding of love and meaning and how it came to possess this understanding.

  22. I want to share a couple of clips from the latest #SeldonCrisis episode, Aurora and Hope. The first part of the title comes from the 2015 novel by #KimStanleyRobinson about an interstellar voyage, and both clips are from a brief excerpt I read on the podcast.

In the first, the conversation is between the last remaining human on board and the starship itself, as they face a great likelihood of solar annihilation.
