Random #DeepThought about the opinion economy:
People will say "penny for your thoughts." Other people will say, "well, my two cents is..."
We've somehow come to an arrangement where an unsolicited opinion is worth twice as much as one that is actively sought out.
This is obviously inequitable and unsustainable. The overvaluation of unsolicited opinions has resulted in a market failure, where the opinions that people actually want to hear cannot compete in the marketplace of ideas.

#BookRecommendation Just finished #FlyingSolo by #NYTBestsellingAuthor Linda Holmes from 2022: and immediately flipped back to the beginning & started rereading; such interesting, well-drawn characters, lovely scene-setting, poignant descriptions of how people age, and pass; [spoiler alert] there's also romance, and a heist/con/double-con, in small-town Maine
