@PeterBronez @franktaber @Richard_Hull You may be interested in #distributism. There's a lot to it, but the core idea is this; that everyone should own their own means of production. It was developed at a time before there were widespread environmental concerns, so the original thinkers on the matter had little to say about them directly, but it does speak heavily to the idea of the distribution of wealth.

Hey @PeterBronez @jaz I appreciated your thoughts on #fedilytics yesterday at #DecentSocial.
Here's some user feedback on post statistics from @steventdennis .
Was anyone working on these?

Running a fireside chat with Andrew Yang tonight!
Good opportunity to learn about what the Forward Party is up to.

If you want to support #opensource firmware for #BambuLab printers, the #X1Plus team says the best way is to buy an X1Plus Expander on Crowdsupply: https://www.crowdsupply.com/accelerated-tech/x1plus-expander#products
It “plugs into your X1 between the AP board and the chamber-monitoring camera. It hosts a Microchip LAN9514 that operates as a USB hub, a 100-megabit Ethernet controller, and a Raspberry Pi RP2040 to handle GPIO controls”
I’m pretty excited about the prospect of hardwired Ethernet!

Bambu Lab’s recent “security” update got me curious about alternatives. Turns out there’s a community firmware project #X1Plus
https://github.com/X1Plus/X1Plus
Bambu implemented a firmware downgrade tool to make it easier to sideload it https://github.com/X1Plus/X1Plus/wiki/Installation-Guide#unlock-your-printer-and-get-your-access-codes

Happy #VoteEarlyDay! I cast my ballot in the first hour polls were open in Arlington, VA. There was a 20min line of folks excited to vote, super cool to see the enthusiasm.
I was particularly excited to vote for our local #ForwardParty candidates:
Madison Granger for County Board https://www.madison4countyboard.com/
James Rives for School Board https://www.rivesforsb.com/

Finally finished my Forest Soul #Rumbleslam ring!
I started with this kit of laser cut 3mm MDF https://ttcombat.com/products/rumbleslam-rookie-ring
I covered the play surface with clay tiles formed with a 3d-printed mold and mortared with plaster of Paris.
Emblems are 3d prints derived from an SVG I found online. Turnbuckles are tree trunk STLs I rescaled and cut notches into. Ropes are faux leather cord. Base color is a chalk paint.

Enjoying some classic #Incubus this morning. For me, “The Warmth” is right up there with #StarTrek IV: The Voyage Home for best artistic use of #whales in pop culture 🐋

The #MarathonPourTous participants’ guide has some unexpectedly cool stuff around #sustainability
It has ideas on how to incorporate more local produce into your training diet (apricots, tomatoes, bell peppers) and avoid single use plastics.
They took their own advice too! The hydration stations eschewed plastic water bottles for reusable cups. Food stations provided “off-caliber” (not pretty enough to sell) fruit that would otherwise be wasted.

The #MarathonForAll is such a cool idea! Great way for people to connect with the #Olympics. I need to dig into what the qualification rules were

Louis Cole’s new album “Nothing” just dropped! Been eagerly awaiting this since the first teaser videos came out.
Listen 👉 https://louiscole.bandcamp.com/album/nothing 👈
He got a full orchestra for this one, plus it has all the rich harmonies, stabby synths and off-chain drumming you expect from LC. And yes, Genevieve is on there too 🎶

Gradio-Lite is SO CLOSE to being SO COOL.

If I can just figure out why #websockets aren't working, I will build some very fun & portable stuff...

So much for Prosumer #SLS #3Dprinting …
#Micronics has been acquired by #Formlabs and the prosumer SLS product is cancelled.Feels like FormLabs killed a potential competitor in the cradle for cheap. Would have much rather seen Micronics raise capital directly. :blobfoxfacepalm:
I suspect these kids lacked quality #business mentorship. Real shame. Hope they got paid.

I concur that energy storage is the big challenge for electric power.
Fossil fuels have an incredible energy density; enough to justify the huge investments we’ve made in storing and transporting the awful stuff.
Poor electric energy storage is why:
- the #DuckCurve exists
- #BEV are heavy, expensive, range limited and slow to chargeWe are addressing this challenge via
- new sources for rare earths
- Upgrading the electric grid
- new batteries
- novel storage mechanisms -
The whole #BearVsMan thing is #PointlesslyGendered. I 100% choose bear, and that is stable if you change it to “Bear Vs Person” or “Animal vs Person.” Why? People are more capable and less predictable than animals.
If I’m alone and doing fine, I choose the lower variance encounter: the animal. I’m likely to remain in control.
If I’m alone and NOT fine, I choose the higher-variance encounter: the person. I’ve already lost control; the person could rescue me, the animal cannot.

I'm going to look into what #PrusaSlicer and #Slic3r offer. In the meantime, #Formware has a SaaS utility that is working pretty well for me. Just wish they offered a paid version (service or local) so I could get my stuff processed faster.

How could we get cross-platform #opensource #STL repair going?
I suspect it involves integrating #VCGlib, which is an "open source portable C++ templated library for manipulation, processing and displaying with OpenGL of triangle and tetrahedral meshes."
It powers #Meshlab, which appears to do everything I need, but with a steep learning curve.

I was annoyed to discover that #Bambustudio and #OrcaSlicer only support #STL repair on #Windows, so I dug into it.
Turns out that Windows has native #3Dprinting support, which includes an automatic STL repair method!
Thus STL repair is missing on #MacOS and #Linux simply because those Operating Systems don't include that service.

3. #ChromiumOS
The Dark Horse
Pros:
- #Chromebooks are pretty common now
- Most of the #security, less of the #Google
- It's just the webCons:
- It's just the web
- Not hackable / locked down beyond the point of curiosity
- Google
- Hardware restrictions?
- Weak ecosystem -
Maybe it would be easier to #decompile this thing and reimplement the whole thing in #julialang

Just published another Apple Shortcut for #Kagi. It queries their #FastGPT API and displays results. Pretty much exactly how https://kagi.com/fastgpt works, just 5% more convenient.
I made two flavors:
Text input: https://routinehub.co/shortcut/16977/
Dictation input: https://routinehub.co/shortcut/16979/I think I could combine these with some accessibility magic, but I'm gonna declare victory for the moment :revblobfoxdealwithitfingerguns:
