One `sudo ip link delete` later, the portal loaded instantly.
Choosing #Docker's default subnet for a public hotel WiFi is a personal attack on every developer in the building. Just... why? Because you can?
-
The response time? 0.052 ms. Really?! Even though I love Canada🇨🇦, I won't believe any hotel lobby router is able to respond in 50 microseconds. ;-)
After some digging, I found the culprit. It turns out a local Docker bridge on my machine had claimed the exact same 172.20.x.x subnet as the hotel. My laptop wasn't talking to the hotel router, but to itself in a virtual loop!
-
Ever had your own laptop gaslight you? 😅
Usually, my daily puzzles involve tuning #PostgreSQL, but today’s challenge was brought to you by hotel WiFi at @pgconfdev 🐘.
Me: "I'm just going to quickly connect to the hotel WiFi to check emails."
My Linux Laptop: "Absolutely not."The captive portal refuses to load. No internet. I open the terminal and ping the hotel’s router (172.20.0.1). Some of you may already be having second thoughts... ;-)

Celebrating a smoother testing experience for the Go community! 🚀
I’m excited to share that pgxmock v5.1.0 has officially been released!
If you are using pgx for PostgreSQL in Go, this library remains one of the best ways to build robust unit tests without needing a live database.

Remember, I told you about benchmarks? The main part is not only to know what you measure, but also how you can improve it by taking a step back! Check out the cool blog by my friend and colleague Ants Aasma https://www.cybertec-postgresql.com/en/reconsidering-the-interface/

According to the Ukrainian #jobsearch service Djinni.co, there is still a lack of experienced #WomenInIt.
The share of women in search on #Djinni is only 32%, and it hasn't changed over the past year and a half.
At the same time, there are significantly more beginners among women: 15% of women have up to a year of experience, while among men this share is 9%. While there are only 7% of women with 10+ years of experience, and 15% of men.
I wonder how does the ongoing war affect these numbers
