For The She-Wolf of Baker Street, I wrote a section where Audrey first met Ruby Stockton, the love of her life, to flesh out their relationship and the things that Audrey gained from knowing Ruby. It got edited out as it didn’t quite fit the flow, but here it is as a taster for The She-Wolf of Baker Street!

I’m so delighted to announce that my long out of print vampire novel, The Opposite of Life, has been re-released by Clan Destine Press as an ebook.
When it came out in 2007 it was praised by the likes of authors Kerry Greenwood (Phryne Fisher books) and Charlaine Harris (Sookie Stackhouse books).

Mmm @NarrelleMHarris baked some banana bread last night and it's delicious; just had some with the morning coffee. Interestingly it's vegan - made only with bananas, condensed coconut milk, and self-raising flour.

FYI @NarrelleMHarris and I have reviewed a bunch of Melbourne Fringe Festival shows - including one by some very funny New Zealanders dressed in banana costumes, taped to a wall. Yes, you read that right.

A reminder that @NarrelleMHarris and I have been reviewing shows in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
Here's our second set of reviews: of Josie Long, Tabatha Booth (played by Frankie McNair), Mandy Nolan, and three edgy new UK comedians featured in the show New Order. Enjoy!

I've been seeing acts with @NarrelleMHarris at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, so here are four reviews which are free for all to read - of shows by Emmanuel Sonubi, Tarsh Jago, Sam Jay, and Cassie Workman:

Just discussed the end of 2025 with @NarrelleMHarris and we both thought, in summary, we'd had a good year.
I did another big Eurail trip from London to Istanbul that went off well and produced a bunch of travel articles (oddly not exactly the ones I thought it'd produce, but what the hell). Also the cruise from Vietnam to Cambodia was interesting, even if cruises remain not my bag.
And I still enjoy pottering around Melbourne, writing in its libraries, eating in its cafes, etc. Ageing has its drawbacks, but life is not bad really.
In broader matters I can't say I'm entirely happy about the state of the world, but it was good to see Dutton's 'Temu Trump' act comprehensively knocked back by the Australian people in our federal election this year.
How's your 2025 been? Good or bad or a bit of both?

Went on Friday night with @NarrelleMHarris to see a Romanian movie, Kontinental '25, at the Melbourne International Film Festival. Intriguing film, a very slow burn as it follows a local bailiff in Cluj as she processes the death of a homeless man she was forced to move on from his temporary housing. Surreal at times, very moody. Also it has crap animatronic dinosaurs!

@GrimmReality You've made me reminisce about the time @NarrelleMHarris and I saw Charles Dance on stage in Coriolanus, back in 1990 when we first visited the UK. #Coriolanus

Ha, I said this morning to @NarrelleMHarris that this would happen - never set up a populist win for a Premier in an election year and expect her not to take it. :)

New at my Patreon... Yesterday @NarrelleMHarris and I dropped into Linden New Art to see its annual Postcard Show. It's always intriguing to see what the artists come up with - particularly those working across different media - so we thoroughly enjoyed wandering through the rooms and seeing the results:

Saw Better Man (the Robbie Williams biopic) at Cinema Nova today with @NarrelleMHarris. What a great movie, lots of excellent cinematography and the seemingly strange idea of depicting Williams as a chimpanzee works really well. Recommended.

The Melbourne International Comedy Festival rolls on, and @NarrelleMHarris and I have three more reviews (free to all to read) for your enjoyment. This time we cover bad boy comedian (or is he?) Martin Urbano, Indian funny woman Urooj Ashfaq, and the adorably non-binary Sarah Keyworth:

In another round of Fringe shows, @NarrelleMHarris and I review a simulated Zoom call between two estranged brothers; an amazing physical theatre act with no words; and a wild show in which four people achieve a variety of tasks while running on treadmills.

The Melbourne Fringe Festival is back! I've seen four shows with @NarrelleMHarris, and we've reviewed:
- How to Art (absurdist physical comedy taking on the art world);
- Murder in the Graveyard (an improv version of a Christie-like murder mystery);
- Sincere Apologies (an audience-run series of apologies from past, present and future);

We had an intense yodeller at the Switzerland Tourism lunch yesterday. In this bit she set a coin circling endlessly inside a bowl and used that tone as a cue.
(On watching this, @NarrelleMHarris asked if it had summoned up a demon. It did not.)

Anyone else going to the Clunes Booktown Festival this weekend? Might see you there. @NarrelleMHarris and I are attending the Speculative Fiction panel tomorrow at 2pm.

New at my Patreon... I happened across the above snapshot taken in San Diego's Comic-Con Museum in 2022. You may notice something rather unusual about the badges @NarrelleMHarris is wearing on her T-shirt, as did I. But I couldn't remember how she came by them, so I asked her:

New at my Patreon... On a break from the city, @NarrelleMHarris and I investigated a village whose famous cafe shares its name with a detective invented by Agatha Christie:

Just saw a new zombie movie set in Tasmania, 'We Bury the Dead' at the Melbourne International Film Festival. Great movie, more a personal quest of the main character Ava (Daisy Ridley) than a horror flick.
We were lucky to catch a Q&A session afterward with the writer/director and actors, which was cool. Added bonus!

Visiting Bran today. Reached here of course in a carriage driven by a sinister stranger and drawn by coal-black horses.
(Or actually via Uber.)

Here's a fun project for book lovers this week - the Global Book Crawl. You collect a 'passport' from a participating indie bookshop, then visit several others to get it stamped and at the end collect a free book. Nice idea. Various Australian locations are taking part, including Melbourne, Sydney and Hobart.
