#30DayChartChallenge Day 10 | Pop Culture. Top 20 #books of 2025 by genre & publish date, according to Readers’ favourites on Goodreads. 📚📖
Most romance novels were published in spring/summer. Nonfiction books have the longest book titles and Fantasy books lead in terms of total pages.
Tried to make it look like a book shelf, not sure I suceeded 😅

Fun #dataviz for the #30DayChartChallenge Day8 Circular 👽🛸 UFO sightings around the world reported to the National UFO Reporting Center between 1926 & 2013 (total >80,000).
Reports increased since the 1990s, maybe internet made reporting easier or more happening in space? (note: that last week with fewest dots is when the year has 53 weeks which doesnt happen a lot)

Catching up #dataviz for #30dayChartChallenge Day5 Experimental. Which flower attracts which pollinator? 🌸🐝🦋
Played around with data from the UK Pollinator Monitoring Scheme. For bees or any pollinator plant some lavender, for butterflies go with buddleja aka butterfly bush.
Made in #Svelte + #D3. Still practicing, so progress is slow but learning lots!

Almost two thirds of London is (potential) greenspace, including 24% of residential gardens! They can be an oasis for wildlife as seen in David Attenborough’s latest show Secret Garden. 🦔 🪶 🌱
I’m very fortunate to have access to one, about 21% of households don’t. But luckily London also has a ton of public parks to which access is more evenly distributed.

My grandma's barometer has basically been stuck on 'rain' for weeks now. How do you all cope in this grey weather??

Just launched Lazy Cats, a visual exploration of cat behaviour.
Meet Lily + 27 other cats and find out what they do all day (spoiler: they mostly chill) 🐱🐾 Does your cat fit their profile?
🔗 https://lazy-cats.netlify.app/Very proud to share my first interactive #dataviz project built with #Svelte + #D3! 📊 It's been quite a learning curve coming from #python but found super helpful tutorials by Matthias Stahl and Connor Rothschild. Links in this repo https://github.com/Lisa-Ho/d3-playground.

Number of gyms in London per 1,000 people for #MapPromptMonday Sports. Didn’t feel too inspired by the theme but always a good reason to dig into some new #OpenStreetMap data.
Guess there are more gyms in the center as some people use them in their lunch breaks? Numbers are notably higher in Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster.
Map made in #python using #matplotlib.

#MapPromptMonday Dessert - Ice cream parlours of Italy 🍨 🇮🇹
The most common shop name is simply “Gelateria” and about 1/3 of shops include “Gelateria” as part of their name.
Data from #OpenStreetMap, made in #python + #matplotlib – full code here https://github.com/Lisa-Ho/small-data-projects#072023-gelaterias-of-italy

Trees of London for this week's #MapPromptMonday - Plants 🍃
Shows total trees maintained by Local Authorities and main type per 4sqkm. London's urban forest provides an important ecosystem and plays a major role in improving air pollution and temperature reduction. If you want to find out more, checkout the London tree report https://www.london.gov.uk/programmes-and-strategies/environment-and-climate-change/environment-publications/valuing-londons-urban-forest
Made with #python matplotlib

After weeks of making #maps for the 30DayMapChallenge, it's time for some #dataviz again.
Looked at what words C-3PO uses most often together (bigram analysis) and visualised them in a network graph (thicker line=more co-occurences). "Oh dear" 😃
Based on Star Wars scripts for episodes 1-6. Made with #python using #nltk, #networkx, and #matplotlib.

#30DayChartChallenge Day3 – Circular. Total cat and dog rescues by the London fire brigade. 📊🐈🐶🚒
Cats get lost in summer, dogs need help all year round (although far less).
Sticking with the same little data set to test out #ObservableJS Plot and #Python in #Quarto. If you want to make interactive charts and used to python, this is a great option. Full code: https://lnkd.in/ee9juNJq
Nicole Rennie wrote a great blog on Observable for R users, so I finally gave it a go https://nrennie.rbind.io/blog/observable-r-users/ -
Great to see an ever growing network of 20mph roads (green) in London making roads safer. 🤩
Speed is one of the single most important factor in whether a collision takes place and how severely people are injured.
Safer roads also promote #cycling. In the latest NTAS, 55% of people said that safer roads would encourage them to cycle more. Most of them (86%) consider lower speed limits an important aspect of safer roads. (Source: https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/national-travel-attitudes-study-wave-5/national-travel-attitudes-study-wave-5#cycling)
