So i'm hesitantly about to start - what will definitely be a long haul - on an art project and so this post was very well timed for me.
I know I'll make mistakes along the way but I'll learn during the process.
🤞🏾😝
I want to sculpt my own ball jointed doll out of clay.
I suspect it's going to take at least a year before I have the first working prototype!

Urban sketching has been fun last year and is equally fun this year too. I explored some new set ups for me last weekend and wrote a tiny post about them.
Because I want to pack lightly but also be most versatile for different occasions. So it's tricky to know and estimate what needs to go in my bag and the combination of supplies.
Read it on my blog: https://lanagoesart.com/blog/2026/April/20260425-sketching/

Advantage of my lovely players in #DND... They get hand drawn maps now.
(Grid will be added in foundry)
Because you know... It just fits the vibe.

Sometimes I just want simplicity... so I turned to simple - very simple - sketches with only 3 markers on the couch... this time inspired by a comment on Reddit. An unexpected love for onions.
This is for you onion enjoyers!

Life is crazy... so after shipping a ton of snow, I wanted to present you some Dante (#dog) in snow and my newest nerdy socks, which I've knitted for my partner.
The #Linux users amongst you might enjoy the #Suse chameleon... and maybe there are just #chameleon enjoyers here too.
For those who want to knit them too, it's a custom chart, it's in the photos too.
Feel free to tag me with your creations!#dogs #blacklab #dogsoOfMastodon #winter #knitting #snow #socks #nerd #nerdy

And because I like to share with you guys... I've been out sketching a lot this weekend, Friday and Saturday both. Lovely places, lovely company, tiny palette and a few minutes to capture the scene.
Just simple quick sketches with watercolors on location.

Portrait of little Dorian, a viewer request from one of my streams. The owner is curious about the #pigment PBk19 and so it's what I used to paint him. With additional goodie of PO49 for the bell.
Dorian is cute and adorable, it was lots of fun to paint him.

And if you want to paint the previous one with me... the stream is edited and you can follow the video without any chats inbetween:

New Color Study video went live today, it's about pigment PV23 Dioxazine Violet, which is found in almost every basic set, in school, student grade and professional paints alike. It's a lovely purple, but what's more to it, the properties, how it mixes and how dangerous or not it is for our environment, you can see here:

I just learned, that Winsor&Newton has a recycling program for old paints and markers. Which is what we need all over the world. Oftentimes pigments and paints need to be safely disposed of as toxic waste, so for artists, who use a lot, disposing of old paint can become an issue. (If you're responsible...)
So maybe it's worth looking into it and spread the word: https://www.winsornewton.com/en-ca/pages/recycle-art-supplies

Tried to print shipping labels from #dhl ... so exhausting.
I filled out the forms, then it said I need to enter a "real country of destination", it's USA and a drop down menu. Don't know how I can go wrong, anyway while I dealt with that, it logged me out, because I was "inactive for too long" and the label I had in my cart got deleted too...It's like they don't want us to use their services...

Last night on stream I was trying out a new brush (the green one on the right) and new colors (on the left) whilt I painted an American Badger.
So I went with a rather loose painting and used the big brush for all of it up to the last details. A review will come soon eventually. First I like to play around with it more.
It was nice to relax and let go, paint shapes and values again. Should do it more often...

My friend Cyane, sadly not here on Mastodon, has started a series of quill reviews.
Being a bit sensible to nickel which sometimes is used in ferrules of watercolor brushes she started using quills. I love quills myself for their ability to hold a ton of water and yet keeping a beautiful point. They're super versatile and I just love them. So I'm super curious about this series and whether I will find a new favorite.Read it! https://www.cyaneink.com/blog/kagalovska-by-davinci
It's worth it!

I've been trying out a new to me brand of watercolors on stream yesterday and they were lovely. They also felt very unusual to me in the sense that even the staining colors lifted easily.
I need to explore this further of course... but it was something I noticed rightaway and a #pigmentnerd like me catches this early on. We'll see how this goes!
Sandcat for your enjoyment.

Painted Scratch and the Owl Bear Cub from #baldursgate3 . Not usually doing fan art, but this game is just so good.
Also I had to figure out how to setup the spread and should have thought of it before I painted Scratch. I like the owl bear one though...Anyone else fully immersed in the game? What run are you on?

My friend Lee Angold, a brilliant botanical artist, curated a palette working with Roman Szmal. So today I had the joy swatching it.
It's mostly unusual colors that won't come in the basic sets, but work together wonderfully. There is a cmy triad and lots of great mixing possibilities. Lots of these I'd choose for my perfect palette too.

Friendly reminder, because we had a recent discussion: Don't buy paint because of the brand, but choose the properties and quality you want and need. Let's be real, we all want the paint to perform and not to look for a way to make it work for us. So seek some knowledge, learn what you like and then go for it. Choose the way of joy. :)
Have a great evening everyone!
