  1. @JoshStrobl I have to imagine this is a Silverblue or Rawhide issue as I have Element open most days without issue and have 20 apps total installed via Flatpak on

  2. @JoshStrobl I see from the pictures this is the submission of @BuddiesOfBudgie to rawhide… any guess on what the timeline might be for the back porting to ? I’m asking as someone who has no clue how long this stuff takes and is simply excited to give it a go.

  3. @JoshStrobl
I was just introduced to #FirstWeFeast - Hot Ones on YouTube last night. I don't think I'm as brave as you. 👍👍🔥🌶️

  4. Thanks for this @JoshStrobl! I’m really interested to try @BuddiesOfBudgie on and was actually just looking to see if it was available earlier this week.

  6. I just reached out to Finland's Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman asking for clarification / information on the legality of Reddit's restoration of user data despite that no longer being under the consent of the user or their right to be forgotten. If it wasn't on their radar before, it is now.

Thanks to all of you posting on Mastodon about it (also referenced Hacker News).

    Hoping to hear back.

  7. Well done DALL-E.

  11. It has been over three years since my last #Koto development diary. With its resurrection using #Qt6 and #KDE Frameworks, time to read why the heck I resurrected it to begin with and catch up on what I accomplished so far!

  12. “More and more, I am motivated by seeing what former students or partners or colleagues can achieve—and that always brings up new questions. It’s a cycle of curiosity.” JS

Read the full article on Prof. Strobl, who - as you know - is not only one of the founding members of , but also former Head of @unigis_salzburg. 😉

  13. Tomorrow (May 1st) is a holiday, which means free day to stream Budgie 11 dev! Work continues on wl_output support in #BudgieDesktop Services, which I've made good progress on generalizing interfaces for off-stream.

    Live 1500 EEST at youtube.com/live/MxAXGDTpQzg

  14. VOD for 5th installment in Building #BudgieDesktop 11 streams is now up at youtube.com/watch?v=399k836lSMU

Good progress made on generalizing a lot of the "meta" interfaces, state management, output manager, etc. Was a deeper rabbit hole than I expected!

  15. Now live for some #BudgieDesktop 11 dev related to Budgie Desktop Services! Objective of this stream is reduce our usage of the wlr_output_management protocol, particularly for getting output info (instead get as much as possible from wl_output).

  16. It's been a couple months since my last #BudgieDesktop 11 stream (oof) but the sun is here, energy is back, and so are the streams!

Tomorrow at 15:00 EEST: "Building Budgie 11 #5: Finding Common Ground on Outputs". We will be teaching Budgie Desktop Services to speak wl_output (via KWayland) so the Budgie 11 shell (panels, notifications, and more) can find the right displays no matter the compositor. Plan is to land wl_output support, then split it out into a library.

Heads up: Budgie streams & vids will now live on the Buddies of Budgie YouTube channel, and the back catalog of Budgie-related videos will be uploaded there too! Once that's done, I intend on uploading them to our channel on the TILVids PeerTube instance. Just gotta see about getting an increased storage quota first!

So be sure to follow / subscribe to either of those if you're interested :)

  17. ICYMI: Fedora Budgie 42 and Fedora Budgie Atomic 42 will ship with Discover. It is very speedy and plays well with the atomic image (in that it doesn't have silverblue hardcoded as the rpm-ostree rebase image and result in users being surprised by a GNOME desktop after they upgrade!) 😁

  18. Congrats to the @xfce folks for all their fantastic work on #xfce420 and special thanks to all the work they have put in to libxfce4windowing (including responding to questions from us Budgie folks 😃). Lots of great work clearly went into the 4.20 release, the XFCE community should be really proud of all the contributions that made it possible.

If you're an XFCE user and appreciate their work, be sure to spread some cheer during this holiday season (if you can) with a donation to their OpenCollectives!

  19. 🔴 Now live for more #Koto development over at youtube.com/live/2aTYrWtnj_k?f

I plan on following up with a new entry in my "Dev Diary" before end of month. I had 12 updates in that series when it was GTK3/4 and I think rounding out what I've done in late Sept. and October leveraging #Qt6 and #KDE Frameworks would make for a good new entry.

  20. Wife and I, like many others, have been taking it as a personal challenge today to cut back as much on our electricity as possible given the massive p/kWh pricing. Every individual can help reduce the load on the grid. In my case I worked from the office today, opting not to use my power-hungry battlestation. At home, it's candlelit and battery on the MacBook Pro.

Fortunately for us, our heating comes from district so our apartment is still warm. I feel bad for all those using electric heating. #finland #energyuse
