People in the #ResearchSoftwareEngineer and world may be able to suggest real-world data sources that could be analysed for student projects.

If you're not in the target group of a #BadActor (and many privileged people aren't), you can be "only" appalled by their posts, condemn them publicly, and that's it - for you.
If you are in their target group, they hit into the core of who you are. You get their attacks served to you over and over again, by additional bad actors and privileged people boosting, quoting and replying, with you in the mentions.
Those two experiences are very different ones.

Quite unfathomable that Posit basically pointed a Claude bot at an open source project and essentially copied it almost line by line without proper attribution.
The "skills" of LLM too often turn out to be copying someone elses work.
This is sad but unsurprising.

Heads up: the new version of @Posit RStudio software (2026.04) has a genAI assistant integrated. It's subscription based, but can be turned off in the settings.
It'll be the first time I won't mail the IT department to ask for an update. We'll have to test how easily students can activate their own subscriptions on exam PCs before we even think about updating.
If anyone can shed light on enterprise control of settings for this, much appreciated.

In my search for a setup to introduce an 11 year old to the internet, I came across Firefox policies. It allows me to block settings so the kid can't easily override the default DNS.
I tried @Waterfox and theoretically I should be able to do something similar, but couldn't get it to work. If someone can help me, would be nice (prefer water over fire tbh).
It's on Linux Mint and I used flatpak for waterfox install.
