There is another poll* choosing your favorite of 80’s animated movies. But there was no room for Studio Ghibli. So I ask you, casual reader, what’s your favorite Ghibli production from the 80’s?
Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind predates the formation of Studio Ghibli, but all the major players are there.
Never heard of Studio Ghibli?

A scorched earth policy.
I wonder if Taiwan’s gov’t plans to destroy its own chip manufacturing ability should China invade? Imagine the worldwide chaos! Imagine how pissed off mainland China would be deprived of that *very* desirable asset.

The celebration this year will focus on the time before the Romans actually arrived and their integration when they did.

CW: US Pol AP, Reuters and Trump
Both organizations are guilty of not stating the obvious. Allow me to rewrite the lede:
“Trump’s Iran failure will leave America worse off than before he went to war”
Reuters presents it as:
“Iran standoff could leave Trump worse off than before he went to war”
I understand they have to present it this way…or else, but this is simply capitulation to fascism.

What’s your favorite animated cartoon movie from the 80’s? I’ve only got four choices so please add yours in comments and if you would, share why you liked it.
Even though it’s not fully animated, Who Framed Roger Rabbit needs to be mentioned along with Studio Ghibli.

Who are your favorite 4/20 characters?
Add them to the comments because I only get four choices, heh. I wanted to add Saul and Dale too.

It will be ruined.
I’ve been to the Boundary Waters many, many times. It’s a Wilderness where you mostly paddle to your destination.
You can *see* the Milky Way.
The water is some of the cleanest you’ll find in the US.
Solitude is possible.
The camping and fishing is amazing.Available for everyone to visit!
Get your permits. If you can’t get a permit from the FS, find an outfitter in the area who can secure them.

Today is the day that Orson Welles caused a little bit-o-panic in the States with his Mercury Theater adaptation of War of the Worlds.

So I drew this on the inside of my nightcap the other night with the straw. This is chocolate syrup drizzled on the inside of the glass.
What do you see? Hoo boy, I see me some stuff!

I hope you all had a nice day. We certainly did. We took an hour hike along the Mississippi. Tonight’s nightcap in Prairie du Chien is a Muddy Mississippi. It’s almost a mudslide, but not quite. That’s okay, it was still really good.
The rubber ducky makes the drink. :)
*Pro tip - do not lick the whipped cream and chocolate from the ducky.

Visited the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, DC. Very cool and interesting. This is a sculpture that spins around - a zoetrope - at which I just stared and stared, thoroughly enjoying myself.
From the Osgemeos exhibit.

Walking back from a terrific lunch at Busboys and Poets on 14th St in DC and passed this gorgeous mural.

(snip) “Here’s the CourtListener docket.
Because there’s a great deal of doomerism, because a lot of people spent yesterday wailing, “Why doesn’t anyone do anything,” I think it crucially important to lay out who did what, so people can understand the agency involved.”

“By now you’ve heard about Peter Thiel’s batshit column, in which (with no explanation) he suggests Trump’s second term might bring about an apocálypsis that his first term did not, a revelation of all the secrets that, Thiel claims, “the media organizations, bureaucracies, universities and government-funded NGOs” have been keeping.
Among the secrets Thiel thinks Trump will tell in his second term that he did not in his first are …”

“The other day, former FBI Agent Asha Rangappa attributed the 11-year scope of Hunter Biden’s pardon to the possibility that, “For the 1st time, the FBI and Justice Department could literally fabricate evidence, or collaborate with a foreign government to ‘find’ evidence of a ‘crime,’ with zero accountability.””

“When Donald Trump announced he had selected Matt Whitaker as his Ambassador to NATO, a bunch of people rushed over here to hear me say Big Dick Toilet Salesman* again.
Like most of Trump’s other nominees, Whitaker is wildly unqualified for the role. Actual diplomats may be able to exploit his inexperience. Likely, he’ll wander around Europe like Gordon Sondland did, doing personal errands for Trump…”

Ah jeez, I almost let Ed Wood’s birthday slip my mind. Director of such cinema classics like “Glen or Glenda,” “Plan 9 from Outer Space,” and “Bride of the Monster.”
He led an interesting life that ended by all appearances, sadly.
Happy Birthday! Ed woulda been 100.

We stayed at a cabin out in the woods between Nederland and Blackhawk in Colorado. This Downy? woodpecker is intimidating the hummingbirds while drinking their sugarwater.
I like the dog barking and the woodpecker tweaks/dances on the feeder. 🥰😂 Big thank you to my wife for the video.

Did you know that 30-50% of people do NOT have a running inner monologue?
For real!
I’m amazed by that number! How can people be walking around without an inner companion constantly opining, over analyzing or babbling. The silence to me is inconceivable. I am using that word correctly. :akko_wink:
