In the Old Days (2003-2004), a guy in the US called Julian Bleecker developed a portable WiFi node called wifi.bedouin which he toted around in a backpack. I was enthralled! Imagine being able to do that! I felt I'd like to do the same but I had very little money, lived in the UK and wasn't at Uni. Even so, I had a go, and my version - "Billy Nomad/YARWAP" was born. YARWAP=Yet Another Roaming Wireless Access Point ☺️
I wrote it up as I went along and today rediscovered the PDF, which is available for you reading pleasure at https://petergarner.net/projects/YARWAP-The_Billy_Nomad_Project.pdf and Julian's is at https://nearfuturelaboratory.com/projects/en/wifi-bedouin/
I did actually take it outside a couple of times for testing, but in those days so few people had mobile devices that did WiFi, that it didn't really achieve its objective. Enjoy!

Looking at the fuel types used to supply electric power to our region this morning, I see the picture is worse than normal. Not only do we have #fossilfuels supplying nearly everything, the highest percentage is #biomass. The problem here is that the mighty #draxpowerplant runs mainly on *imported* wood pellets which is largely imported from the USA by sea. So, now that we have a war/conflict, how will the disruption to shipping in general affect the UK's power capability. But hey, isn't it lucky we have gas to fall back on! 🤦♂️

I actually used #wormhole for real today! I had to get a screenshot and howto doc from a restricted Linux box to my phone. Wormhole to the rescue, and it worked a treat!
