CW: Human rights breaches
Last wk I wrote about the hypocrisy of a UK care provider 'celebrating' their apparent award wining care, while people they are paid to support lived non-lives.
Yesterday CQC, the UK #healthcare #SocialCare regulator published another report into a service of theirs providing inadequate care.
14 breaches of regulations, 10 for almost a year https://www.georgejulian.co.uk/2022/12/04/achieve-together-failing-again/

Just realised I didn't share this last wk.
More #CQCinadequate care.
Heathcotes Yorkshire Supported Living and Avalon Care Home https://www.georgejulian.co.uk/2022/11/23/heathcotes-yorkshire-supported-living-and-avalon-care-home/
One relative told us "[Family member's] life has become significantly smaller since living there, they can no longer do the things they used to enjoy doing and have lost a lot of skills."

CW: Award winning care that breaches human rights
I hate awards. For numerous reasons, mostly because they're self selecting, inherently biased, subjective, and usually a big fat money maker.
Today I wrote about Achieve Together, winners of 2022 LaingBuisson Award, and the inadequate care they're delivering, according to CQC https://www.georgejulian.co.uk/2022/11/29/achieve-together-award-winning-specialist-care-that-cqc-consider-to-be-inadequate/
I'll do a thread too, with replies unlisted so pls boost if you think ppl would be interested

Today's review of two inadequate care homes for learning disabled and autistic people in England, as judged by the regulator, the Care Quality Commission.
Full version in a blog here https://www.georgejulian.co.uk/2022/11/21/the-phoenix-and-forge-house-services/
For those who said they'd prefer a thread I'll add one here in reply, unlisted, so please boost this post if you think others would be interested

@GeorgeJulian I think it's largely a free-for-all with freedom to swap if you wish. I guessed a lot of my Scottish twitter pals would choose it and I've been pleased to see a core of auld pals as well as meeting new peeps.
#BoldJoff sends a request to play a sailor went to sea, cos that's his jam right now! -

Had a treat of a catch up earlier with fellow #journalist @GeorgeJulian
I've found other follow tips really helpful here, so if you're interested in #OpenJustice #courtreporting #reporting #autism #research #activism and #inclusion, check out her work.
Bonus: George is also an amazing #craftivist so possibly some magical/colourful pictures to come too... (no pressure GJ).

#100DaysOfAirFrying Day 41 and finally had our xmas dinner after our xmas plans were changed short notice on xmas eve with a trip up country.
Yesterday was Riverford Belly Pork cooked in the #airfryer for the best crackling ever. Used the integrated temperature probe to judge how long to cook for.
Spuds also done in the fryer, everything else steamed. So good, defo turning into an #airfryerevangelist which maybe should read as #airfryerwanker 😂😂😂

CW: Autism Suicidality
I spent 3wks reporting 19yr old Chris Nota's Article 2 inquest in September, before it had to be adjourned due to Essex NHS Trust failing to disclose documents to investigators they'd commissioned to conduct an investigation.
The coroner, Sean Horstead, sat for 3 days this week, concluding numerous failings and missed opportunities probably more than minimally contributed to Chris's death

Couple more pics #100DaysOfAirFrying
Two are my latest dirty secret, homemade croutons, first were stale sourdough loaf, cut into rustic cubes, half drizzled in olive oil, half walnut oil, both with salt flakes on top. 10mins at 160 in #airfryer, final 5mins at 180
Second pic is walnut cob leftovers, drizzled in walnut oil, my soup was ready so I just went straight to 10mins at 180 and they were perfect.
Lastly beetroot wedges, peel, olive oil drizzle, #airfry at 180 for 15mins

Days 22-40 of #100DaysOfAirFrying and I still wasn't 100% so #cooking was limited, and ended up unexpectedly away for xmas so it wasn't used for that.
Here's a few pics of its offerings in that period, death by potato 😂 and a Boston Banger - then I'll post again with my new fave #airfryer indulgence
-
Days 16 - 21 of #100DaysOfAirFrying and I was mostly ill, so wasn't really cooking or eating. I did reheat some beige food at one point, and I made another pear and apple crumble. Pics attached.
-
Day 14 and Day 15 of #100DaysOfAirFrying and I've nothing to report.
The #AirFryer has stayed off, mostly because I've been back to back with work the last two days and living off toast. I still had flapjacks so had no need for treats either.
Am off out for a curry tonight so have no need for tea, but will see if it gets used again tomorrow.

Had to pick a parcel up from the Post Office Sorting Office. Guy serving me remembered my Dad and mentioned him (we have the same name) 😭 ❤️
It's over 10 years since Dad died and I *love* it when people still speak of him, its the best feeling, like he lives on (I mean he does in his kids but you know what I mean).
Commiserated him on how busy he is ahead of two days striking, but totally supportive of them 👊

Sharing for the week day crew. This piece by @Saba_Salman is so heart breaking.
What happened to Connor was horrendous, and the deceit and obfuscation that followed, just as horrendous.
@truth4connor and other bereaved families shouldn't need to fight for answers, yet we see that's the case time and time and time again.
The coroner was pretty outspoken on the lack of transparency by the Children's Trust charity too

CW: Food / meat
Sorry, sorry, sorry totally behind on #100DaysOfAirFrying but only because I keep forgetting to post, I don't forget to use it so today Days 11, 12 and 13.
Day 11 air fried bacon for a sarnie
Day 12 grilled bacon and then made the most disgustingly delicious crumpet, garlic puree, butter, bacon and cheese feast (inspired by some tiktok video via my sister)
Day 13 Riverford pork and apple pie with air fryed chips
I have NO regrets about this purchase at all #airfryer #cooking
-
Day 10 #100DaysOfAirFrying and I was invited next door for dinner with my cousin... burgers and chips, which she'd cooked in her #airfryer so even though I didn't use mine today I think it still counts 😂
-
Day 9 #100DaysOfAirFrying this was a total indulgence, utterly unnecessary but soooo good.
150gm butter, 150gm sugar, 2tbsp honey, 2tbsp golden syrup melted together, 300gm jumbo oats, 100gm sultanas
First use of the bake function, 16mins at 180C, was aiming for 20mins but thought was long enough.
It’s still cooling but I just stole the corner and it’s sooo good, altho maybe a little too sweet 🤭 #AirFryer #Baking #Cooking
-
Day 8 #100DaysOfAirFrying oh my goodness, air fried chickpeas with olive oil, salt, cumin and paprika.
15mins at 200 on Air Fry mode #AirFryer grand total of 13p
Then later on reheated leftover cauliflower cheese on the first use of the reheat function , super quick and super hot. 10mins and baking hot all the way through. #cooking
-
Day 7 #100DaysOfAirFrying time for cauliflower cheese, with couple slices of ham from earlier in week reheated by throwing in for last few minutes cooking time.
I roasted cauliflower for 10mins at 200, with a few spritz of spray veg oil on it. Made cheese sauce in a saucepan, added florets to ensure were fully coated. Popped back into the roasting tin, covered with mixed herbs, some breadcrumbs and a little salt.
Roasted 7mins. 20p of electric, yummy warm food in my belly #AirFryer #cooking

@sarasiobhan it does. I'd think of it as a kitchen appliance rather than gadget. Its like a small oven really. It grills, air fries, roasts, bakes, dehydrate and reheats.
Much cheaper than an oven tho, and smaller too (altho the one I got feels pretty big) but its table top height. Was thinking would be ideal for people who struggle with mobility.
I got a Ninja Foodi Max, mostly because I'd used Abi's and liked/knew it. It's also medium capacity, ideal for one or two ppl #100DaysOfAirFrying

Day 5 of #100DaysOfAirFrying was yesterday and I had to fight myself not to use the #AirFryer I really had no need.
Day 6 today and I cooked a leek, an onion and some butternut squash cubes with mixed herbs and had it in a wholemeal pitta with humous, was so good. Next time I’d roast not air fry but still playing around deciding on what function to use.

Added a poll for the question before.
If you were the parent of a baby would you want mittens joined together or separate?
Can imagine them being useful for toddlers, but little ones? TIA #parent #newparent #parenting #baby #babygift #knitting #knit
