My album of the week has to be Blake Leyh's absolutely stunning New Modern Strings, composed on and featuring the Gravikord, as 24-string stainless-steel electric harp invented in 1986 by Bob Grawi and inspired by the African #kora.

Tried to watch Colombia v Jamaica on a boat with an antenna this morning. We are in the Heathrow landing path & every time a jet goes by the image dissolves into a maelstrom of pixelated color chunks. The jets never stop. So more like an experimental video installation than football. Thrilling!

I just re-read an interview I did in 2007 about my experience as music supervisor on David Simon's HBO show "The Wire," thought I'd share it here. It was for a fan site curated by Jim King, who I no longer know how to link to. The interview is long, but still holds up and has a lot of detailed info about the music in The Wire and the process of music supervising in general.

This evening’s cocktail: The Negroni Spagliato Spritz
1 oz Campari
1 oz sweet red vermouth
4 oz Prosecco (or in this case cremante - whatever bubbly you have on hand)
Dash Angostura orange bitters
Orange peel garnish (I don’t have this tonight)Very refreshing, with the delicious bitter profile of a classic Negroni, but much lower alcohol content (Prosecco instead of gin), so one can guzzle a few. I think this might be my summer cocktail of 2023.

I'm finding a few things from The Abyss archive this morning... Here's a full-page ad in The Hollywood Reporter from the 1990 Oscar campaign. I wasn't eligible for an Oscar because "Sound Designer" was not an award category back then, but they did use my name in the promotion.
