Migrated from another instance to this one, so here's a new #introduction
👋 :I thought I wanted to become a professional #pilot when I was a teenager. I earned my private pilot's license when I was 17. Going the professional route didn't pan out, thus the handle of "DefectiveWings".
I started off working as an #electricalEngineer when I graduated from college, then did a career shift to IT helpdesk in 2009. Moved to desktop support, systems, and then over to web programming.
I currently work at a small tech company in charge of/ responsible for all things IT and security/audit related (I joined this mastodon so I could follow #infosec information easier). I love #automation, with #saltstack being the tool of choice for #linux and #pdq for #windows at $DAYJOB.
I enjoy #php, #GravCMS, and #Drupal7.
I've been a #gamer almost my entire life. If you ever played any of the Descent series, I'll insta-follow you :)
I hope to get swap funny IT stories with you and maybe learn a thing or two from y'all.

I have a #kubuntu 26.04 rig that every handful of minutes just...stutters. It's like the transmission on car just slips and doesn't do anything for a brief moment and then resumes. Biggest impact is during my online games where I might miss a shot.
Where can I start to debug such an intermittent item?
This blip occur outside of games in just the basic OS as well, so I don't think it's network related.
BigRig Specs:
- #amd #Ryzen 9 7900X3D (12-Core)
- #ASRock AMD #Radeonrx9070xt (16GB)
- 32GB memory
- Kubuntu 26.04
- Kernel 7.0.0-15-generic
- Ethernet is hardwired, not wireless

Replaying #GodOfWar, purchased via #gog. Such an amazing storyline!
I never had a Playstation growing up, so this was my first GoW game. I can't recommend it and its sequel, #GodofWarRagnarok, enough. Both are totally playable on the #SteamDeck

@ItalianSkeletonGaming I feel like I tried something like that, but linux didn't like it at the time. I should revisit. WiC was always a staple at our #lanparty gatherings!

I just joined #TeamRed and now have an #AMD 9070, replacing my aged #nvidia 2080.
Most things are working well, but #steam won't load a window from the #kubuntu 24.04 task manager. I can start steam from a command line, but the task manager doesn't work. I see an icon in the lower right tray.
Any help would be appreciated!

Me: "Why won't this app break on this line!?"
Also me: Helps to have #xdebug enabled if you're trying to debug something :blobcatfacepalm:

How old is considered "retro"?
Off the cuff, I have enjoyed the #Descent trilogy (and it's more modern successor #Overload), Descent: #Freespace, and Thief 3: Deadly Shadows

Finally nailed down a #Saltstack state for installing #bookstack. The automated Ubuntu script just wasn't working well for me.
Looking forward to introducing the app at $DAYJOB.

For anyone using #pfsense, I wrote this little converter [1] that takes the xml and generates a #Markdown file for each interface and its firewall rules. It also generates an alias.md file that has flags of whether that alias is dead/ unused or not.
At $DAYJOB, we have to audit our firewall rules on a recurring basis, and this is a good way for us to update our docs quicker.

Well, crapola. Was replacing disk 1 and it got to 99% when disk 2 gave out. Running rsync's off to some other drives and then I guess a full rebuild is next.
Unrelated, how are #ugreen NAS's? Worthwhile?

My humble #homelab is complete (for tonight)
200mm Noctua exhaust fans are plugged into USB ports. Each cabinet has some open sophets at the toe area to let cooler air in.
Left cabinet houses a #geekpi #minirack. Three lenovo sff PCs run my proxmox cluster.
Right cabinet houses my networking, ups, NAS, and the TV stuff (Wii, #steamlink, Amazon tv).
Really happy how it all came out.
Thanks @geerlingguy for all your videos on the mini rack!

@paco Ah, but it doesn't fail either if it's given attention. #schrodingercat

Prepping for the upcoming local #lanparty. Getting all the old games working on Linux is a little nostalgic. So much jank just to get these old games to run, ha.
Finally got #battlefieldbadcompany2 working in #lutris as well as #CallOfDutyModernWarfare (original).
Depending on who shows up, #worldinconflict might also make an appearance, courtesy of #heroicgameslauncher.

Just finished #Deathloop. I would have loved to be in the dev meetings when the "day" was planned out. I really enjoyed the game concept, and the player-controlled Juliana was always nerve wracking.
I may go back and try to wrap up some side missions I missed along the way.

If you are running a #WordPress site and are looking for options to get your content out and served elsewhere, I've written a WordPress #plugin that exports content to #GravCMS.
The newest build of the plugin generates a GravCMS plugin so you'll be able to use whatever Grav theme you'd like!
Posts export as #markdown pages
Other content includes media, taxonomy, categories, site metadata, users, and roles. If you use #AdvancedCustomFields , those transfer too!

I had a couple of hours to kill while my son attended an event. Ended up tethering my #SteamDeck to my phone, and I was able to flawlessly play a multiplayer session of #GenerationZero as well as have a voice call going for around three hours in the car. Was a great experience.
This device never ceases to amaze me.
