  1. @Brendanjones
Thanks, had hoped for responses! And I'm not at all learned in this field. But when you say "maybe that’s how it has to be in order to stay within planetary boundaries, I don’t know" - to truly differ from the planet-wide experiment like the one climaxing now, surely the #PrecautionaryPrinciple needs to be an intrinsic quality of a new culture?

  2. @Brendanjones I don't think it's a #coop yet, but they're trying to move in that direction. They still need to raise enough money from the community to pay back their unusually patient initial investors, and decide how the new organization will govern itself. #e2c

  7. > it’s not just #PhoenixArizona, with those 31 straight days of 110 degrees Fahrenheit..., or even #Chile, which recently passed 100 degrees Fahrenheit in what’s still known as… “winter” there. #Temperatures.. breaking records in an extreme fashion across the planet... should be, daunting, and yet, according to the latest polls, barely half of Americans (... 23% of #Republicans) consider the climate emergency a major threat

  8. (I realize that some of these suggestions would best be used simulatenously, e.g., #newPaper and #preprint have obviously different content. What I am searching for is a common tag for *threads* explaining research articles, not only posts announcing a new publication 🙂.
I had to drop one tag bc of the 5-option limit in polls, and I went for #mastoPrint as it was my own suggestion.)

    Some further thoughts:
One could combine these tags in a standardized way with research field names, e.g. #newNeuroPaper, #neuroPreprint, or #neuroPaperThread.
Also, please remember to use #camelCase or #CamelCase notation in these tags for screenreader accessibility!

Tagging some people who responded to my first post (sorry for bothering you!):

  9. “Throughout history, societies have repeatedly faced the collapse of systems without a clear successor in sight. The fall of feudalism didn’t come with a detailed blueprint for industrial capitalism. It simply came with the undeniable realization that the old way was no longer viable.
Our collective obsession with control keeps us shackled to systems that harm us.”

  14. New worker-owned foodie news site coming out: weareravenous.com/coming-soon/

    This is the future of journalism. As Ravenous write in their intro there;

“We believe the best way forward for media and journalism is without generative AI, without VC money and investors to pay back, and without corporate overlords more concerned about posting endless profits than the actual writing that is supposedly their “product.””

Agreed, and love to see it! Best of luck to them.

  16. Once again, carbon offsets don't reduce emissions.

Companies should do them only if they:
    1. Are voluntary. Sure, do offsets for marketing purposes or investor requirements, but companies should ...
    2. Still pay for their emissions (e.g. carbon taxes)

  17. Excellent long read on biodiversity, how to measure (companies’ impacts on) it, and greenwashing.

  18. EFRAG have also released a Q&A form so you can ask questions about the standards: survey.alchemer.eu/s3/90634629

  19. Do we have reporting people on here? Especially EU ones?

EFRAG has just released an excel that details each of the 1178 data points that companies will need to report on under .

Great little summary of it here: nossadata.com/blog/efrag-1178-

If you don't know what this is, it's reporting that all companies in the EU have to do on their social and environmental impact. Large companies have to start reporting in 2025 (reporting on 2024), then all other companies in 2026.

  20. The out of line effect is more obvious if I add an image.
