  1. Oh nice! So good to run into @jgarr
    It's been a while.

  2. I've only followed for a couple years now, and feel like the communities are here now.
But I'm only hearing speakers mention their Twitter tags and engagement. 🤔

  3. @devnull yeah, it's messy. And I'm mixed feelings on the whole matter. I don't think the scraping is completely unencumbered, but onX is gross to be asserting such claims on the user contributed content.
Someone shared with me 12ft.io/https://www.climbing.c as well for background.

  8. There is a lot of neat stuff about this platform, but already I'm sad to see that they are scraping other platforms and appear to be relicensing the content to CC0.
Their discord is full of discussion where they debate whether that's even legal.
    😑🤦

So, I'll be avoiding OpenBeta for now.

Even if there are paid features, it seems mountainproject.com is the active community.

  13. Well, I told myself I was going to stick to debian/stable on the personal laptop, but I see that testing (Trixie) now got updated gnome desktop.

    Couldn't resist the upgrade 😄

Very smooth. Only dkms modules of evdi (silly displaylink), and wireguard since they rolled that module into linux-image, have any issue during the dist-upgrade.

  14. Still liking this days later. I thinking spoken word is useful for my brain in a way the at typing still just isn't.

  15. @jzb Honestly, for speed and accuracy, it seems the "WhisperCpp Small" model is a decent balance. It does well even with these book specific words. And bonus, I forgot I left it listening and was singing at my cat and it even annotated "♪♪♪" lolol

  16. @jzb good question. I just did a simple comparison of a few models. I'm sure there is a better text to use for such a text...
It's neat that the Whisper models even get the punctuation more correct than Vosk.
And the Mozilla model is just not great.
Also, they all seem to process a little differently. Like, the Whisper models listen, and only output whole text once it has processed, whereas the Vosk will roll out words even if it amends them on the fly

  17. Speech to Text on Linux?!?!

I just found "Speech Note" when searching the Software app.
    Installed it via flatpak.
    flathub.org/apps/net.mkiol.Spe

Used the "English (Vosk Large)" and "English (Vosk Small)" language model with very decent results. There are loads of models to choose from.
All processed locally. No network needed!
    This is great!

  18. Xenia, the Linux mascot.
    A+ v great.
and thank you for xenia-linux-site.glitch.me/ collection.
